How I can help you
About my qualifications and what I can help you with
I am qualified to work with adults of 18 and over, as an Integrative Counsellor, Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) and as an Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing therapist (EMDR). These are therapies which are recommended by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) and can provide effective ways of helping to overcome symptoms of depression and anxiety in many forms – relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, distress associated with traumatic events/PTSD, worry, phobias, social anxiety and more.
I am accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and comply with all the criteria necessary to maintain membership and recognition as an ethically practising therapist.
I hold an enhanced DBS certificate and am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO, UK’s independent body set up to uphold information rights).
As well as over ten years as a CBT/EMDR therapist in the NHS, I have worked in both the charity sector and in private practice in London and Worthing.
Right from our first session you put my mind at ease and I felt totally comfortable at being able to open up to you, which is no easy feat for me as I tend not to show my emotions, especially to people I have only just met.
Each session I felt that I achieved something and got a little bit better (lighter), even though at the end of the sessions I felt I had run a marathon. However, you always made sure that I was okay before the session ended. I felt every session had a purpose and a goal regardless of how big or small. In addition when starting EMDR, you fully explained what we were doing and its purpose and I was totally surprised at how it made me feel afterwards.
Whilst there are so many examples on how you have helped me, probably the one overarching element that embraces all of the sessions, is your ability to identify the issues that need to be dealt with. I know you would say it’s your job but to me your help and support enabled me to move past them in a way I never thought possible.
